Obvious reference points are Vangelis and especially his seminal work on 'Blade Runner', Jean Michel Jarre also pops to mind and so does Sky, Mike Oldfield and Brian Eno. Pink Floyd must be an influence. More contemporary composers like Alex Paterson (The Orb), Aphex Twin, Autechre, The Future Sound of London and Boards of Canada could also be influences.

What a beautiful, wonderful joy this is to listen to, full of enchanting, meandering soundscapes and lush, tranquil beauty. From rhythmless, beams of textured sound that coagulate for brief moments and then melt away again via subtle beats that bubble just under the surface. Huge sub basses pervade throughout, but never to text your speakers; they remain calming and relaxed.

This is the most perfect chillout album I have ever heard. Rather than staying trapped in a permanent state of colourful enlightenment, often the mood changes and hints of darker, more brooding shades are introduced. Fuel for thought and maybe even pondering the meaning of life itself. I'm really not kidding.

What makes this album even better is it knows when enough is enough. It appreciates when one idea has run its course. Rekalix's early output and especially his first EP 'The Zapotec and the Maya' suffered from being too long-winded, great tracks often running out of ideas and finally becoming mindless musical waffle. This has all been dealt with and the musical maturity and understanding on display now is perfect. Rather than try and segue directly to the next track, they are all individual compositions in their own right, seamlessly making a transition as each track ends and another fresh idea takes its place.
